The HD3 Board of Directors possess decades of general business, finance, technology and product development, management in every type of business venture, operations, crisis and turn around management, education, marketing and social philanthropy experience. Individually, each Director was invited to become a part of the HD3 Founding Board of Directors to share their significant knowledge, depth of business and entrepreneurial experience, international contacts and resources that will lead HD3, as an organization, and each HD3 entrepreneur, toward success. Michelle is the Founder and CEO of the High Desert Discovery District (HD3), a 501c3 private-public partnership launched in 2011 to stimulate, mature, commercialize and bring to market technologies created in New Mexico that will become high growth companies that remain in New Mexico.
Michelle has held positions in all business sectors including the National Conference of State Legislatures, U.S. Small Business Administration, United States Senate, Tele-Communications, Inc. (TCI) and the Wall Street-based Chamberlain Communications. A business and social entrepreneur, she brings over two decades of experience in marketing, brand management, crisis management, public affairs, public relations and executive management with significant expertise in the development, growth and promotion of companies, products and brands. She has been an original member of the board and management counsel to some 30 startup ventures.
She holds a master’s degree in Public Administration and Public Affairs from the University of Colorado. She holds a bachelor of art degree from Colorado State University. She was a 2013 Core Curriculum Graduate of Leadership New Mexico.
In her spare time, she is an obsessive golfer, lifelong skier, and a learning gardener and bird watcher. She is a 5th generation Coloradoan and very loyal Denver Bronco season ticket holder since her dad started taking her to games at age 9. She currently resides in New York City.

Dennis manages the Treasury Management Services and Customer Support group for the New Mexico market. He is a Certified Treasury Professional (CTP) with over 37 years of experience focused in Finance, Bank Operations and Customer Service. Dennis is a native of New Mexico, born and raised in Santa Fe. He received his BBA and MBA from the University of New Mexico and is a member of the professional faculty at the UNM Anderson School of Business since 2009.

Dennis is married to Cindy Parkes and has four step children, and three grandchildren.
Lavi brings more than 25 years of experience in the semiconductor manufacturing and design, and in the healthcare informatics industries. He is an entrepreneur, having co-founded or been part of the co-founding team of seven start-up companies. He has held senior management positions and his responsibilities have included semiconductor R&D, software design, corporate and product marketing, product support and sales.
He has had experience in setting up distribution channels domestically as well as internationally. Some of the more notable companies he has worked for include National Semiconductor, Advanced Micro Devices, Cameo Systems, Cadence Design Systems, Vital Software, Amerisource-Bergen, P4-Healthcare. He is currently involved in healthcare informatics and decision support for start-up Altos Solutions. Lavi has a BS in Physical Sciences from Birla Institute of Technology (India) and a MSEE from West Virginia University.
Wish is President & CEO of Qynergy Corporation. Qynergy is a technology development company that works with scientists to develop their ideas into products for customers. In his role, Dr. Krishnamoorthy evaluates technologies, identifies customers and funding sources and in some cases directs the product development activities. His technical background is in materials science with extensive experience in developing novel materials. His expertise is in materials processing, characterization and evaluation.
Over the years he has developed solutions for critical materials issues such as failure of reactor pressure vessel steels in BWR reactors, strain suppression in laser diodes, improving brightness of GaN LEDs. He also has experience in manufacturing from his tenure at Uniroyal Optoelectronics, where he directed the LED fabrication facility; he increased yield and throughput significantly by employing data-driven manufacturing techniques that enabled line operation without interruption.
His unique experience in both R&D and manufacturing enables him to take ideas from concept to prototype to manufacturable products. As a consultant, he helps small companies develop business plans and assists them in product/process development. He also assists government agencies and venture capital firms in evaluating technologies. In his spare time he mentors start-up companies through programs such as HD3, ABQid and other accelerator programs.
From 1994 – 1998, Dr. Call was employed by Battelle Memorial Institute as a Sr. Development Engineer and then Group Manager at the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) in Richland, Washington. At PNNL, Dr. Call pioneered the development of microreactor systems technology, microchannel heat exchangers and microfluidic-based biosenors. Many of the technologies were developed with internal research and development as well as Laboratory-Directed Research and Development (LDRD). In addition, Dr. Call served as an Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Washington State University.
In 1997, Dr. Call was admitted into PNNL’s Entrepreneurial Leave of Absence program on a part-time basis to launch MesoSystems, and in mid-1998, began full-time employment with the start-up. Under his leadership, the company of 35 employees has developed, marketed and produced innovative new products and technologies for biological defense and national security such as the BioCapture® handheld air sampler and the AirSentinel® bio-threat sensor. Over $50 million of the company’s research and development has been funded by DARPA, DHS, the Army and other federal agencies through competitive bids. He has over 13 years of entrepreneurial leadership experience and holds 20 US patents.
Dr. Call has given numerous seminars and classes on entrepreneurship and technology commercialization. Mentoring on entrepreneurship has been a passion for Dr. Call. Not less than six members of his management team left MesoSystems and went on to start their own technology start-ups. Examples include Andrew Kamholz (Edge Embossing, www.edge-embossing.com), and Reza Shekarriz (Fluid Analytics, www.fluid-analytics.com).
In 2005, MesoSystems was acquired by ICx Technologies (www.icxt.com) for $20m in cash, providing a profitable exit for the angels and venture capitalists invested in the company. In November of 2007, ICx successfully completed an IPO on the NASDAQ and raised $80m (trading symbol: ICXT). Dr. Call continued to manage the Albuquerque operation through 2008, but in 2009 has transitioned leadership of the business unit to Mr. Ezra Merrill. Dr. Call is now an ICx Vice President on the corporate business development team. ICx was acquired by FLIR Systems in October 2010.
Over the past several years, Dr. Call has become an active member of the New Mexico Angels. He has made nine investments in six companies in the past two years, including Cashsteam, Gourmet Pet Supply, One-Connect IP, Acoustic Cytometry Systems (ACS), Knowledge Reef Systems, and Vista Therapeutics. Dr. Call was a Board visitor to ACS prior to its acquisition by Invitrogen. He has recently helped create Phase One Ventures and is a General Partner. POV is a small seed stage venture fund (www.phaseoneventures.com). In addition, Dr. Call is an advisor the Cottonwood Technology Fund, another new early stage venture fund.
Dr. Call received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering with Highest Honors from Montana State University in 1985. He received a M.S. and Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Davis in 1992 after a brief employment at Lawrence Livermore National Lab. His doctoral dissertation focused on the particle-turbulence interactions and laser-based diagnostics for particle tracking. He completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Spain focused on spray atomization.
Mr. Edwards has over four decades of senior management and financial engineering experience in commercial and investment banking, as well as numerous industrial executive management positions. He has vast experience in mergers, acquisitions, and corporate restructurings, both as a principal and intermediary, in addition to all types of financings and public offerings. Through the last twenty years, he has owned and operated numerous companies for his own account. He currently serves as Chairman of CASS Holdings, LLC, a holding company for five privately owned companies, in the industrial composites, Government services and financial services industries.
Greg started his career, as a commercial lender for a banking institution, now known as US Bank, and he was based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for nearly twenty years. He considers this experience as his “business finishing school.” He was recruited back to his home state of Oklahoma in 1983, as a bank consultant and “turn around” expert. He started immediately on a major project of rescuing a large manufacturing company, CMI Corporation. He designed, engineered, and implemented a $97 million recapitalization of this Company, which was publicly owned and subsequently was listed on the NYSE. Following this restructuring, he was recruited as President and COO of the Company, where he negotiated a number of financings, divestitures and acquisitions.
Following his time at CMI, Greg returned for a time to the banking industry, where he was President and Director of a prominent Oklahoma banking operation, which was subsequently purchased by a bank, later purchased by Bank of America. For a period of time, he was CEO of a NASDAQ listed financial services company. He later became an investment banker with Stephens, Inc.
Greg has always been an entrepreneur, and since 1993, he has purchased or started a number of profitable companies in the manufacturing, polymers, contracting and financial area. He continues to be an active Director in a long list of companies in many parts of the United States.
Greg and his wife, Mary Ann, have had a second home in Santa Fe for over 16 years, but they have been a full time resident of Santa Fe since the middle of 2010.
Colin is the founding principal of TechVen Partners, LLC, a private equity firm focusing technology investments. He negotiated TechVen’s first investment, SensiQ Technologies, Inc., and currently serves as CEO and Board Member for SensiQ Technologies. Mr. Cumming also currently serves as a Board Member for High Desert Discovery District (HD3) an independent, non-profit, non-governmental organization committed to technology development in NewMexico. Mr Cumming serves on the Oklahoma Governor’s Science and Technology Council.
Prior to forming TechVen, Mr. Cumming served as CEO and President of ICx Technologies, Inc. guiding it through an IPO and then through the acquisition by FLIR Systems, Inc. in 2010 and served as a General Manager for FLIR. Prior to ICx Technologies, Mr. Cumming founded in 1994 and served as CEO of Nomadics, Inc. Mr. Cumming has extensive experience in technology businesses, especially in identifying key technologies and securing the rapid development and commercialization of emerging technologies.
Mr. Cumming holds BS and MS degrees in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State University. Mr. Cumming has served as a board member on various for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Mr. Cumming has been awarded 5 patents and has written numerous publications on explosives detection.
